- Free your beer bottle from its cap with just a piece of paper. Learn how via a video demo.
- Brother and sister want freedom from German incest laws. These siblings say they’re just a “normal couple.” I’m not so sure.
- Free electricity — via sea power. “Pacific Gas & Electric Co. caught the wave last month when it became the first California utility to file for permits to study the promise of sea power, a non-polluting but expensive and mostly untested way to take energy from the ocean.” [image by Caleb Sconosciuto]
- Free stuff for fitness. “To cut healthcare costs, firms are offering cash, TVs and other rewards to those who shape up.”

That incest article was really annoying because it never made it clear if consensual incest between adults is against the law (it’s perfectly legal, and gross, everywhere in the US), or if incestuous marriage is the issue. A third issue might laws against siblings procreating.
These issues are worlds apart.
Salon and Carol Lloyd gets a rotten tomato for sloppiness.
Consensual sex is a personal matter, and attempting to regulate it is odious to all of my values.
Procreation is a largely personal matter too. I don’t like the idea of siblings having kids (and one could argue that inbred children become a societal burden), but you’d have to be extremely cautious about telling people they can or cannot breed.
Marriage is a religious institution, and I’m not sure why governments have anything to do with it.
But that’s just my opinion. I think it’s far from a cut-and-dry issue.
