>> The Metro Board endorsed Villaraigosa’s 30/10 plan to speed up big transit projects like the subway to the sea, completing them in 10 years instead of 30. Metro’s already launched a new 30/10 page. Unrelatedly, the transit agency’s also launched Primary Resources: The Metro Transportation Library Blog. Earlier: More about the 30/10 plan.

>> Metro fares are scheduled to go up July 1, and a public meeting to discuss the increase will be held Sat., May 8, at 10 am at Metro headquarters in downtown Los Angeles. New fares would increase the current $1.25 fare to $1.50. Day passes would go up from $5 to $6, while monthly passes jump from $62 to $75.

>> Cyclists rejoice: The Venice Neighborhood Council unanimously approved the Cyclist Bill of Rights. If you’re feeling energized by this win, volunteer to count and survey cyclists in May for L.A.’s bicycle sharrows pilot project.

>> If you like to bus it to get-togethers but prefer to cab it home late night, you’ll be happy to know that L.A.’s Hail-a-Taxi program may become permanent. Earlier: Greener car services.

>> L.A. residents who still drive sometimes: Recycle your tires for free at 6 city collections in May.

  1. Hey, I appreciate the mention. However, note that the Sharrows count is done by LACBC and the Venice endorsement was an effort of Bikeside. Bikeside and LACBC openly disagree about strategy and ethics. It would make more sense to suggest that one could volunteer for Bikeside if they’re feeling energized by something Bikeside did.

Also, I’ve openly written that I believe that the sharrows study, a collaborative effort between LADOT and LACBC, is a delaying tactic by a department that doesn’t want to use sharrows. Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach, and UCLA all placed sharrows without a study – why does LA need one? And why did LACBC go from arguing for sharrows and even arguing that a study wasn’t necessary, to joining in the study? Is it the $15,000 grant that they received to participate?

  2. BTW, I hope I’m not coming across as cranky . . . I’m just frustrated with LACBC on this issue. I really do appreciate your support.

  3. I agree with AT. If you are feeling energized by Bikeside’s win at the Venice NC join Bikeside LA. If you are in favor of delaying sharrows from appearing on our streets go volunteer for a bogus study for LADOT. LADOT should be paying people for this survey work anyways! LACBC should be ashamed.

  4. I wish Cleveland would revamp its public transit. We pay $ for one ride and $5 for an all day pass. There are no transfers, so if you are going just one way and have to change buses, you have to buy an all day pass.

  5. Alex — You are not coming off as any more cranky than usual. Thanks for working on the Venice endorsement :)
