>> Pi: Possibly the coolest electric bike ever! Upside: Cute design with cradle-to-cradle engineering, battery that’ll get the bike up to 20 mph, zero emissions, sold at Design Within Reach. Downside: $7,500 price tag beyond most people’s reach. (image from Electrobike)

>> How green is green publishing? Fred Pearce, author of Confessions of an Eco-Sinner, has a tough time figuring out what the carbon footprint of his book is, but determines that bookshop purchases’re greener than e-shopping — at least in large cities. My own tips for green reading here.

>> LA Times writer who writes about scams falls for a scam himself. Beware the fake Sennheiser headphones –

>> Artists and techies: Pair up for the Eco-Vis Challenge at Eyebeam Create information graphics that could be used to make visible environmental / ecological concerns, or an eco-visualization based on at least one set of ecological impact data. Winners get cash prizes and will be included in an upcoming Eyebeam exhibition. (via rhizome)

  1. I never understood the name ‘Design within Reach’, which sounds kind of like ‘design for the people’, you know, good quality and nice design with an acceptable price tag. You’re right, none of the designs seem to be within alot of people’s reach, i.e. they’re really frickin expensive! It’s out of my reach, or at least for the time being!

  2. I’ve actually never gone in because it just LOOKS expensive from the outside. IKEA’s much more within reach in terms of design :P
