>> Ride Metro free from 9 pm to 2 am on both Christmas eve and New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, there will be no late night subway service as we’ve had in previous years.
>> The Expo Rail project’s $220 million over budget and a year behind schedule, reports the L.A. Times — and that’s just the downtown L.A. to Culver City portion. Now, Metro says we can expect to see the part of the line open — up to the Crenshaw Blvd. stop — next year, with the hope that the Culver City station will be running by the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012. Reasons for the delay and cost include:
construction delays where the Expo and Blue lines meet on Flower Street, the decision to add a station at USC and safety improvements required next to public schools along the route.
>> Want to help make Expo Rail a reality — faster? Get involved with Friends of Expo, the transit group that’s been pushing for the Expo Line — and will continue pushing until Phase 2 (Culver City to Santa Monica) gets built out, whenever that is.
