>> The new pride flag: A multicolored green flag. A company called Greensender wants you to fly and wear its green pride flag. Oddly, 4 out of the 7 green pride flag items for sale are made to stick on cars. I drive, therefore I’m an environmentalist? Hmmm….

>> Could the new Secretary of Agriculture be Michael Pollan? The fans of the author of The Ominivore’s Dilemma want Pollan to take the job, badly. Pollanforsecretaryofagriculture.org is now up — and a similar Facebook group has 4000+ members so far, including myself.

>> The new at risk group: People with old TVs! TV stations are gonna stop sending out analog signals for cathode-ray tube TVs on 2008 — so I got a press release about how the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund and partners are opening “DTV Assistance Centers in seven at-risk cities” to help all Americans “take action in order to maintain access to free over-the-air television.” I get that TVs do deliver emergency PSAs, but I still find it funny that people who might start watching less TV are called “at-risk” groups.

  1. I guess I’m in the at risk category. I have an old television with no converter. But then again I don’t have an antenna hooked up either so I don’t get current broadcasts anyways. It’s my occasional watch a movie box.

  2. I too have an old TV, but like you, I only use it to watch DVDs –

  3. I mostly use my old tv for movies and being ridiculed by my peers because of its size, but I have to admit that I do enjoy watching the 12 different PBS channels I get with my converter box…

  4. Also, there was an interview on one of the PBS channel new shows with Pollan a couple weeks ago and Bill Moyers asked him about the Secretary of Agriculture position. He expressed that he thought others would be more suited for the position, but who knows, maybe he’s changed his mind?

  5. To add on to my last comment — Until a few weeks ago, I had an even older TV — but got a slightly newer one when a friend upgraded to a flatscreen and gave me her old one. The cool thing is, I was able to freecycle the older TV I had! There’s still a market for analog TVs –
