- Now for the 100-mile book — and blog!. “Plenty: One Man, One Woman, and a Raucous Year of Eating Locally.”
- Lotsa intelligent people think the Economist isn’t all that. Henry Farrell cites one Economist article that dismisses charges of labor abuses at a meat packing plant, without mentioning that the company was convicted in a US court for major labor abuses against immigrant workers. “This doesn’t seem to me to be responsible journalism under any reasonable definition. Indeed, it seems rather hackish.”
- The Canadian Student Fair Trade Network’s latest newsletter (PDF), with a recap of the United Students for Fair Trade convergence last month: “USFT Convergence Questions ‘Fairwashing’ by Transnationals.” Not the best-written newspaper, but somewhat informative. CSFTN’s having its own symposium this June.
- Schwarzenegger wants to cut $1.1 billion from public transit funding. Tell the governor you want buses and subways, not bigger freeways.

Your Schwarzenegger link doesn’t work.

I was watching ebay this morning for organic facial scrubs when I came across this refreshing item
It warms my heart to at least see that someone is at least trying to make a difference!
I am writing to see if he is interested in trading for a years worth of my homemade organic shampoo and a total-body holistic massage if he ever gets down to the SF Bay area!
may refreshing rains cleanse your body and spirit

The economist is a weird one. It is useful to read on occasion but you have to be aware of its strong conservative leanings. One of my favorite things to notice with it used to be to observe the cover story, which might read something along the lines of “Bush in Iraqi quagmire” and then read the article which would argue why Iraq was not a quagmire.
That said it does often publish very useful statistical information on the state of the world.
