>> The Purloined lobster: 2 halibut ang 20 spiny lobsters were stolen from the SEA Lab, a small aquarium in Redondo Beach. “Halibut sells for about $15 a pound in supermarkets…. To prevent someone coming back for seconds, the SEA Lab has installed a video surveillance system.”

>> Land lobster Lazarus. Watch the slideshow of 13 species deemed extinct then rediscovered. One’s the Lord Howe Island stick insect, sometimes called the land lobster.

>> Rock-climbing frog. More accurately, a rock climbing area in the Angeles National Forest’s going to stay closed because it’s habitat for an endangered frog species.

>> Military defying manatee. The military and manatee advocates are fighting over land in Florida and Southern Georgia. I’m rooting for the manatees!

>> Uberadventurous birdies: Rare birds — a tundra swan and a wood stork — turned up at South El Monte’s Legg Lake. The birds are far out of their normal habitat; no news on whether the birdies’ travels are related to global climate change.
