>> Totally lost on the health care issue? Timothy Noah at Slate gives you a quick rundown of articles to read to catch up on the health care debate.
>> Timothy also expoynds on why Obama‘s health care plan’s better than McCain‘s.
>> Our health care system’s so fucked up that people are getting married — and considering divorce! — simply due to health insurance issues. In the NY Times: “For today’s couples, “in sickness and in health” may seem less a lover’s troth than an actuarial contract. They marry for better or worse, for richer or poorer, for co-pays and deductibles.”
>> Thousands of California children are in danger of losing health insurance, reports the LA Times. Why? Cali “legislative budget negotiators this year have decided to increase premiums for the state’s Healthy Families program, which pays for medical care for more than 850,000 children of low-income workers who are above the federal poverty line. The state estimates that the parents of 19,000 children will end up dropping out of the program by July because of the $2 or $3 monthly increases.”
>> Oddly, the number of Americans without health insurance has fallen for the first time since President Bush took office. Now 15.3% are uninsured, compared to the previous 15.8%. The drop’s attributed to an increase in the number of people covered by government programs, despite a decrease in the rate of private health insurance coverage.
>> Earlier: Tell Schwarzenegger to give me (and all other Californians) health insurance

I came to this country with nothing, and hearing people whine over this issue really is tired. I guess I’m fortunate enough to have a job where I can pay for my own health care, which isn’t expensive at all.
Even as an illegal immigrant, working at mcdonalds I managed to make enough to get simple health care.
The system might be broken, but people sure are lazy or are dumb, because it’s not hard to get coverage.

I guess you’re lucky in that you have no preexisting conditions, or that your work insurance overlooks its employees’ preexisting conditions.
Many of us are not so lucky. The lucky people who don’t look outside themselves to see why others aren’t as lucky are sure lazy and dumb.
