Killspencer overnight bag

>> Against war but for post-combat upcycled fashion? Killspencer upcycles military truck tarps into rugged, long-lasting bags with “authentic post combat wear and tear.”

>> Thought Friends of the L.A. River’s cleanup getting sponsored by a plastic bottle company was bizarre? What about California Coastal Cleanup getting trash bags emblazoned with the logos of major plastic polluters? Mark Gold of Heal the Bay bemoans this oversight at Spouting Off:

Shocked doesn’t begin to describe what Heal the Bay staff felt Friday when we opened the Coastal Cleanup Day trash bags sent to us by the California Coastal Commission.  Betrayed isn’t quite right either.  Nauseous is more like it….

The plastic trash bags included the logos of some of our biggest opponents in the fight against marine debris: the American Chemistry Council, California Film Extruders and Converters Assn. and other plastics producers.  Coastal Cleanup Day – brought to you by the very polluters that are causing the global marine debris crisis.

>> A thrifty woman, a big bag, a full trash bin: Dumpster diving’s “like Halloween, but with brie,” according to Emerald Catron, who waxes lyrical about her freeganing ways:

We returned home with loaves and loaves of bread, mountains of fancy cheese, veggie burgers, vegetarian sushi, and fresh-cut flowers. It was like all the expensive things I would never buy in a store had suddenly been given to me for free — pastries, gigantic containers of biscotti, spinach dip and eggs. Loads and loads of organic eggs.

  1. Interesting. I participated in the Coastal Cleanup day this past weekend and I didn’t see any of those bags. We has normal clear plastic looking bags and it was filled with plastic related trash.

  2. Ew (re: the pic of trash)! I’m guessing different sites got different bags?
