It is a public image. There have been plenty of artists who, for one reason or another, feel compelled to trash what a team of self-interested business people have helped them build. Musicians smash and burn guitars and drum kits to express this kinda thing. All actors have are themselves. Crispin Glover comes to mind. Letterman must hate how they choose to pull this poop on his time.
