Coffee as a unifying force

Posted by Siel in caffeine, fairtrade, losangeles (Saturday March 11, 2006 at 11:34 am)

Fair Trade LA‘s second event: JJ Keki from Mirembe Kawomera, an interfaith coffee co-op of Muslim, Christian and Jewish farmers in Uganda will be in LA to tell the story of Mirembe Kawomera (Delicious Peace). JJ and his neighbors, with some caring business partners, survived a desperate situation and built a community to overcome old, intercultural animosities.

When: Tuesday, March 14, 2006, 7 pm
Where: Islamic Center of Southern California. 434 S. Vermont Ave. Los Angeles. Parking available behind the building via the driveway next to car dealership.

The free event, open to all, is planned by Fair Trade LA and Thanksgiving Coffee, which roasts and markets Mirembe Kawomera’s coffee — Yes, it’s fair trade certified :)

You can read more about the co-op here and here. After the talk, Fair Trade LA’ers can participate in a steering- committee meeting to plan future Fair Trade LA events to spread the news about Fair Trade in Los Angeles.

Update, 3/14/05: Read about the event here!

  2. Hey Maya — Have you considered similar events in your store? Ok — I guess it’s a small store ;) But maybe a tabling/sampling event? :)
