Coffee concoctions

For anyone swayed by lawyerboy2‘s less-than-brilliant argument regarding coffee, be swayed no longer. Coffee is good for you, according to health researchers. You know, antioxidants.

The same study reports that drinking cola’s not so good. I first heard about this study via Doug of Bloggle, who, incidentally, works for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, which, incidentally, just launched a certified coffee soda, called Double-Bean Elixirs.

Apparently, it’s the world’s first organic fair trade certified coffee soda, so no real complaints from me — just a mild curiousity as to where this concoction might fall on this health issue –

Nestle’s patented its own concoction: coffee beer (via Dec’s Rambling). Not only is the coffee not fair trade, the beer isn’t alcoholic. What’s the point?

  1. Here’s a cool map of cities with the most Starbucks. Maybe you’ve seen this already:

  2. Hmmm. Is there such a thing as fair trade beer? I guess since malt and hops mostly come from industrialized countries, probably not. Would be interesting, though.

  3. I should think that Green Mountain’s Double Bean Elixir falls in a happy place on the good-for-you continuum… it gets its flavor not from cola, but from Fair Trade Certified, organic coffee. It’s gently carbonated with sparkling filtered water. And, it’s sweetened with organic evaporated cane juice… not some funky, overprocessed sweetener that you can’t pronounce.

It’s been in development for nearly two years. ;)

  4. elsamary — I had NOT seen that map before! It was really interesting to find out the highest ratio of Starbucks was in cities I’d never even heard of –

I’ll try out the Double Bean Elixir one of these days, once it becomes avaliable around here :)
