My efforts to de-car, in dollars and cents:
- $52 for a half month of insurance (go Progressive!).
- $468 for a new-used car engine computer due to theft.
- $36 for towing to get new car engine computer
- $292 for alarm to deter future thefts.
- $43 for a thorough car wash, inclucing tip, before loaning it indefinitely to Larry.
$891 total for January 2007
Goal for Feb: Live without car.
So the theft really threw a wrench into my effort to spend less on the car. However, at least I spent $0 on both gas or parking tickets :) And now I’ve temporarily been able to get rid of the car headache.
So far so good. The trips to school have been pretty good, even on the day it rained. It’s easier to get up in time to catch the bus now that I teach at 4 pm. I can’t read on the bus, but I listen more intently to my iPod, and have developed a new love for Gomez –
