A couple years ago, a few blocks of Wilshire Blvd. actually closed to car traffic for Earth Day. That big car-free experience hasn’t been repeated since, but the Wilshire Center Earth Day returns for its third year with its de-car-ing message — complete with a bike valet and appeals to leave the car at home.
So bike or 720 it over with your panniers or reusable bags full of e-waste — to drop off at the event for free recycling. Then enjoy the entertainment on the event’s main stage, which will include a Korean Fan Dance performance, an El Salvadorian dance troupe, and Bangladeshi Dancers — as well as musical performances by Naked Rhythm and other artists.
When: Earth Day, Thurs., April 22, 11 am – 3 pm
Where: Front lawn of Wilshire Park Plaza, 3700 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles.
Cost: Free!
Visitors will also get to shop at a farmers market, adopt trees, win seed packets, and get eco-educational info including garden training. For kids, there’ll be face painting, drumming, a photo-booth and more.
Other Earth Day event: Avatar’s James Cameron at Global Home Tree Benefit
