Walking down Third Street Promenade after hitting the Farmers’ Market yesterday, I found an Eco-Car Show in full swing.
It looks like KTLK put it on — they had a live broadcast going when I went by, with the interviewer asking what the interviewee — I think from one of the car companies represented — thought about plug-in hybrids.
The guy said something about how plug-ins are adding non-manufacturer stuff to the car — before I walked out of earshot –
Some people walked around the cars ooing and aahing, but cars just really don’t interest me on an aesthetic level. I especially don’t really understand the impulse to check out what’s under the hood — mainly cuz I don’t understand what I’d be looking at. I mean, I’ve already told the story of how I didn’t even know how to pop open a car hood –
Yet all the cars had their hoods propped open so people could gaze in. Do most people actually get what’s what in there? Is this common knowledge I’ve totally missed out on?
Still, I’m sorta glad there are better alternatives on the market now. I dunno — Maybe I shoulda gone for a test drive to figure out what all the fuss is about –
