Eco-fashions upcycled in L.A.: Urban Renewal and SuperLuckyCat

Posted by Siel in fashion (Tuesday June 2, 2009 at 10:13 am)

Whether ruffled blouses are in this season or not’s a debate for the fashion magazines. What I do know is that the upcycled blouses in Urban Outfitters’ Urban Renewal section always look cute!

blouse by you.

As with all Urban Renewal fashions, these blouses are refashioned in the U.S. from vintage fabrics. That means each piece is unique — so what you end up getting could be slightly different from what’s shown in the webstore — though the silhouette will be the same. The Plaid Ruffled Blouse on the left is on sale for $39.99; the Oxford Ruffled Blouse costs $58.

Upcycled fashionistas in Los Angeles can get local as well as eco while shopping Urban Renewal pieces. Urban Outfitters gets some of its fashions from SuperLuckyCat, an upcycled clothing company founded by Michael Baffico and Crystal Butler in downtown L.A. Blogdowntown recently profiled the duo, who revealed the process they go through to create their one-of-a-kind pieces — from getting 100-pound bales of pre-loved clothes from the midwest to mass producing one-of-a-kindness.

super by you.

Above’s SuperLuckyCat’s Pegged Mini Dress, yours for $79 at Urban Outfitters. SuperLuckyCat’s eco-fashions can also be found at Metropark and other stores across the U.S.

  1. I have recently visited out of randomness my local urban outfitters to see what the cool kids are up to. clothes badly made with already falling-apart stitches for a rather higher price than the qulity looks like. rather go to my local consignment shop, anytime ;D

  2. Yeah — a lot of Urban Outfitters’ stuff isn’t really for me either. I like Anthropologie even less. Still, you can find some cute eco stuff in both those stores — You just have to dig pretty hard — usually harder than at consignment shops :)
