Eco-friendly professional organizers

Apparently, January is Get Organized Month, at least according to the National Association of Professional Organizers. And this January, when the economic crisis has people shopping their own closets, stash busting, and generally trying to make do with what they have, reorganizing to rediscover and enjoy what you’ve already got’s both a money-wise and environmentally smart move.

But if you’ve let your clutter get so out of hand that you can’t bear to deal with it, professional help may be needed — from a green organizer. What exactly makes an organizer green? According to Seana Hansen, L.A.’s Eco-Organizer, “Organizing and being eco-friendly easily go hand in hand. Both encourage efficiency, conservation, consideration and simplicity.” Seana does everything from helping clients dispose of things they no longer want in an eco-friendly way (reusing, selling, donating) to dispensing with green living advice to steering clients towards more eco-friendly cleaning products.

Want to find a green organizer in your area? You can start by going to the National Association of Professional Organizers’ directory and check off “Green Organizing” under “Specialized Services” before doing your search. LaborFair‘s also a great site that connects local service providers to clients; try searching “green organizer” in your area.

And if you’re not sure what to look for in an organizer, Unclutterer has some great tips on how best to choose the best organizer for you.
