Emerald City: TransitPeople, Step It Up, and very scary teeth

Posted by Siel in emeraldcity (Friday November 9, 2007 at 12:02 am)

Latest from Emerald City, my enviro-blog at LAtimes.com

>> TransitPeople and a trip to the aquarium via Metro. TransitPeople basically puts together field trips for inner-city school groups, using public transit exclusively. So I took my first light-rail ride in L.A. last Saturday to take part in one TransitPeople trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

>> L.A. eco-activists ‘Step It Up,’ eat cookies. I got up late but still made it to the Global Warming Rally in front of the Federal Building in Westwood today. There I joined other Angelenos who turned out with signs, bikes, and music — and I gave out chocolate chip zucchini cookies!

>> Anti-bus ad at Pasadena Ford. Apparently, Pasadena Ford’s new ad slogan is “Don’t Take the Bus.” Weird, annoying — but also somewhat gratifying to see that car dealers are starting to feel a bit threatened by public transportation!

Plus — a linky post:
>> Greenlist: Easy and easier
>> Daily Downers: trouble with teeth

  1. So glad you made it down to Long Beach! The Blue Line ain’t so bad, though it cuts a slice through parts of LA that many people would like to pretend don’t exist.

  2. It wasn’t bad at all, aside from whatever construction seemed to be going on that forced us off the train, onto buses, then back on trains again. Hope it’s running smoothly again now –
