Emerita: Kate finds her skin’s now unbelievably smooth –

Posted by Siel in beauty, consumerism (Friday June 13, 2008 at 2:59 pm)

A few weeks ago, I received some Emerita skin care products — but then realized these are “functional skin care products for women over 40″! I’m still a ways away from 40, so I asked for a volunteer reviewer —

So now, here’s a fun review from reader Kate Nonymous:

I decided to use the products in combination, to see what the total effect was. After about three days, I started to wonder if these products really made a difference. I mean, they all seemed to work just fine, but I wasn’t sure that they were any better than my regular products.

Then on day five, I realized that my skin felt unbelievably smooth—and I hadn’t been exfoliating. Here’s what I received and how I felt about them:

Moisturizing Face Cleanser: Yum! Smells faintly like citrus, although based on the ingredient list I’m not sure why. Cleans well.

Balancing Toner: Yuck! Smells like witch hazel. Made my skin feel tight. I’ve never been sure what toner does for me that I can’t do by rinsing a few more times.

Skin Brightener: I’ve never been sure what these do, either. It’s a light gel, and goes on smoothly.

Day Face Cream with SPF 15: Moisturizes well.

I’m at the last of my usual night crème, so I decided to buy a few of the products. I got the cleanser, which I can’t wait to start using even though I really should finish my existing cleanser first. I also got the Skin Brightener, since I’ve never used anything like it, and it did seem to make a difference. My third item was the Night Face Cream, because I needed something like that anyhow.

I liked the Day Face Cream with SPF 15, and wondered if the effect on my skin was due to the particular combination of products. But I have a daytime moisturizer I’m pretty happy with—and it has SPF 30. I guess I’ll see how that does in conjunction with the Skin Brightener, and consider changing if my skin isn’t soft enough. I do like the extra sun protection, though, particularly since we’re going into summer.

All of my full-size products arrived in cardboard cases with caps, as shown on the Emerita website. It seems like excessive packaging, but the cases seem like they might be re-usable. Of course, they have the name of the product on them, which means I probably won’t take them into the office, but I should be able to find things to store in them at home.

Thanks to Kate for her detailed review! I’m actually still using the Emerita Microdermabrasion Face Scrub, and am still very happy with it!
