Europane

147860589 e8b92c6325 m EuropaneI had the yummiest smoked salmon sandwich on olive bread for lunch, at a lil bakery called Europane in Pasadena.

The place is run by Sumi Chang, ex-chef at Campanile, who makes really, really yummy bread and pastries.

Europane gets its coffee from Monkey & Son and Jones Coffee, both good coffee companies based in the LA area. [Update, 10/2/06: Monkey & Son pulled their coffee from Europane; see comments] But despite the fact that both Monkey & Son and Jones Coffee make some really yummy coffees, Europane’s isn’t that good :( Apparently, EuroPane mixes the different coffees to make its own blend — a “technique” I really don’t think is working for them.

Still, at least the coffee’s produced through fair labor. Hopefully Thom of Monkey & Son or Chuck of Jones Coffee can help yummify EuroPane’s blend –

Europane. 950 Colorado Ave. Pasadena. 626.577.1828. Mon – Sat, 7 am – 5:30 pm; Sun, 7 am – 3 pm. Cash only.

  1. Long overdue delayed reaction. We pulled our coffee out of Euro Pane one month into the relationship when we discovered that they were cutting our coffee with other coffee. They were using our Espresso by itself, but the coffee was a blend ours and whatever else they had on hand.
They do make a wonderful baked product, but I had to do what I had to do…

  2. Oh! Too bad — I did wonder why the coffee tasted so funky –
