I used to only envy Hollywood one thing: The subway. Now I have to add a second item to the list: The 11th Annual FREEWAVES Festival, which I’d totally go to if a subway line connected my ‘hood to Hollywood….

The Freewaves Festival sounds like an issue of Adbusters come to life. Reversed surveillance at McDonald’s? Check. Pre-election improv satire? Check. Video projections investigating “the small spectrum between creation and control in our times of political decisions and lethargy”? Check.
Festivities start on Thursday, October 9 and run through Monday, October 13, but de-car-ing activists — and cyclists in particular — will really want to be there on Saturday, Oct. 11 for Streetwise Mobile Media, a day of anti-internal combustion engine fun.
Ride over to Hollywood Blvd and valet park it near Hudson St., then stroll down the 6500 block of Hollywood Blvd, browsing info tables from LA Biodiesel Coop, LA Bike Coalition, LADOT Bicycle Program, TreePeople, Friends of the LA River, and many more.
There’ll be solar-powered DJs, makeshift parks, biodiesel demos, and what they’re calling a Fender Blender juicer — perhaps a blender that runs on pedal power. Then at 9 am, Bicycle Bell Ensemble, Bike Cite and Bike Ballet will take over the street!
Check out the whole schedule of events for more eco and political fun.

Thanks for recommandation.

I’m really sad to have missed this one. If I had known about it sooner I’d have taken a break from de-car-ating my new home and come along. Hmm… Home “de-car-ating” doesn’t really work, but you know what I mean!
Best regards,
Margaret
