Friday freebies: $200 Home Depot gift certificate

Posted by Siel in freebies (Friday March 20, 2009 at 9:21 am)

A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

Why buy an expensive piece of equipment you’ll have to make room in your garage for — when you’ll only use only rarely at best? As you know, I borrowed a carpet steam cleaner at Home Depot to prettify my apartment late last year. Now, tool-borrowing green LA girl readers who’re ready to roll up their sleeves can save even more money on their home improvement project — by entering the “What’s Your Pro Project?” contest to win a $200 gift certificate to Home Depot!

To enter, just visit the Home Depot Tool Rental site and pick out a tool you’d borrow for your green home improvement project. Then leave a comment on this post, sharing what green project you plan to tackle in or around your home this year — with what borrowed tool.

Start planning your project now — and leave your comment by the end of the day on Sunday, March 29. I’ll pick what I think is the most interesting project lined up for the year — and award the $200 gift certificate to the reader. Good luck!

  1. My project for the year to to finally start my backyard herb garden! I have a small yard so I need to build (or buy) a shelf that can house all my plants, like a bookshelf. I have a vision of rows of savory smelling herbs and small pots of fruits and veggies in my mini-garden. I’m going green, eating local and making use of mother nature’s resources. I even started a worm compost to help my future plants grow.

Don’t think i need to borrow a tool for this project, but I do need a shelf (or wood if DIY), pots, soil and starter seeds.

Spring is here, time to start planting!

Christina’s last blog post..toastymuffin: Realized this morning that I can’t resist chocolate malt balls. Started with one this morning and polished off the entire box in the car.

  2. I plan on starting my first vegetable garden this year. Looks like I’ll be renting the aerator.

  3. I am working on my own urban vegetable and herb garden. I’d like to rent a Tiller to dig up half of my backyard.

I also need to put a fence in around my garden so I can try to dissuade my cats from using it as a litter box.

So I’ll need one of these.

  4. Two things I need! I would rent the rear line tiller to till compost into the ground, and the floor polisher to shine my concrete floor.

I’ve lived in my current home for 9 years and have never washed the exterior of my house. The 6.5 HP Pressure Washer would help me do that.

We’re always doing things to the yard and inside the house but never anything to the house itself.

  6. Our fence that encloses our backyard and our deck are more than ready for at least a two-coat sealing! We have a large backyard, so there is a lot of fence and the deck is small to medium in size! The only seal they have had is the original 6 years ago. The “Airless Paint Sprayer” would help us get the job done much quicker and efficiently. Please enter my name in your drawing. I would love to surprise my husband with the Home Depot Gift Certificate. He practically lives in their store. Many thanks, Cindi

  7. Our project is landscaping our backyard… including installing a fence (bought used off craigslist!)..we’ll need the 2-man hole digger for that. We’ll also need the demolition hammer to break up a random patch of concrete that’s standing in the way of our new stone patio. And the lawn is crying out for the aerator. The rototiller is a must for preparing the ground for our perennial gardens, as well as expanding our current vegetable plot. We better get busy!
