Friday freebies: Eco-friendly pest control from EcoSMART

Posted by Siel in freebies (Friday October 16, 2009 at 7:23 am)

A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.

EcoSMART safe home bundle by you.

Today’s freebie’s a a 4-pack of eco-safe pest control products from EcoSMART, a company that makes  organic insecticides & pesticides for safe pest control.

Since my home’s bug free aside from the occasional friendly spider, I’ve had no need to try out EcoSMART products for myself. But for those of  you in dire need of an eco-alternative to Raid, these greener products could be just what you’re looking for. After all, the scariness of Raid’s no secret — Check out Wired’s explanation of Raid’s ingredients for a quick primer on why you should really be opting for safer alternatives.

The 4-pack’s called the Safe Home Value Bundle, and includes a bottle or can each of Home Pest Control, Ant and Roach Killer, Flying Insect Killer, and Insect Repellent.

Comment by Friday to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Saturday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

  2. I’ve been using vinegar and talcum powder to keep out the ants from our first floor apartment. Stronger-but-still-eco-friendly alternatives would be very much appreciated…

  3. I could have really used the ant stuff this summer – I was drawing in chalk all over the kitchen.

  4. Unfortunately my home is not as bug free as yours. I’ll put it to good use. Better than wiping out an army of ants with my shoes and thumbs :-)

  6. I would definitely use these. I get nervous using regular commercial products around my cats. But those bugs have got to go!

  7. Wow — I have never seen eco-friendly bug control before. I would just love to try this out. Thanks!

  8. We could definitely use something for wasps. So far I’ve had good luck stopping ants with dry grits and squashing the occasional silverfish or earwig that gets inside (outside, earwigs–like slugs–cannot resist the containers of beer that I put in the garden). But since my husband is allergic to yellowjackets and wasps, it would be nice to have something safer than Raid to combat them with.

  9. would love to try their ant spray– I’ve had a hard time convincing my s.o. to give up the Raid in favor of my vinegar concoction, but this might do the trick!

  10. Even if you don’t win, there’s no need to ever use Raid. At Whole Foods you can get the non-toxic Bugs ‘R Done — I’ve used that for years and totally recommend it.

  11. Thanks for posting this! I’m on the ground floor and buggies love visiting. I used an eco-friendly powder from petco to sprinkle around the periphery indoors but along the outside surface of my doors and windows I succumbed to the industrial strength bad stuff :( boo.

  18. We have more bugs than I care to talk about!
Spiders and silverfish are the two main problems.
    Please count me in.
    As always, thanks!

  19. i actually hope i can get this for my sister. she just moved into an apartment infested w all sorts of critters and since she’s such a bug-phobe she has tried every means possible to get rid of them. except, of course, the eco-friendly way.
