>> Take a green vacay in Santa Barbara. Zach at LAist waxes lyrical about the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner — “a beautiful ride that partially cruises along the ocean in a couple hours” with a current 20% discount to boot — and the fact that “over 20 area hotels have discounts to car-free travelers, many of which offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the train station.”
>> A green vacay in San Diego isn’t so easy according to Scott Martelle, who complains about eco-difficulties in an LA Times article. Oddly, the main problems encountered in his trip had to do with his wife’s fear of heights. Ummm, relation to the environment? Scott also had a very poor sense of what items really affect his carbon footprint, fretting about not being able to reuse his towels while not taking any steps to eco his dining or entertainment choices.
>> I’m not happy about the fact that the Big Blue Bus STILL isn’t on Google Transit — and now Bottleneck Blog’s Steve Hymon’s calling out Metro for failing to get on the Google Transit bandwagon. Update, 1/21/09: Metro should get on the Google Transit train already.
>> Greenpeace released its latest Guide to Green Electronics — and my laptopmaker, Dell, seems to be slipping further every year. Apparently, Dell withdrew from its commitment to eliminate all PVC plastic and brominated flame retardants by the end of 2009! Some things don’t change though; Nintendo’s still at the bottom of the list.

I took Amtrack up to Santa Barbara a couple of weeks ago and already have plans to go again the weekend after next. It’s pretty relaxing and fun. I highly suggest it.
I also have a friend to rides Amtrack down to San Diego nearly EVERY weekend, he’s experienced no problems that I can recall.
