Twice-weekly green giveaways.

I wish I could dry my clothes on this myself, but alas, my balcony’s simply not shaped to make this energy-saving tool work. Thus, one lucky green LA girl reader will win a 4-Line Retractable Clothesline from Practecol — and never pay to dry clothes again!
If you’ve wanted to use the power of the sun to dry your clothes, but didn’t want clotheslines stretching over your space 24-7, this retractable clothesline could be the solution you’ve been looking for. Basically, you’ll need to attach the base to one wall (borrow a small drill via Neighborgoods!), then attach hooks to an opposing wall up to 9.5 feet away. Whenever you need to dry clothes, pull out the handy front flap of the base and attach it to the hooks.

The retractable clothesline even comes with a dozen wooden clothespins that come neatly stored in the base for compact green living. Want to start solar drying? Comment by Thurs., July 29 to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Fri., July 30 (more info on freebies here). U.S. addresses only.

Greenla Girl,
You don’t need this device to dry your clothes on your balcony. I have a balcony too, and dry all my clothes there on a simple clothes rack that I bought at Walmart. I only use my drier to big items like sheets.
Comment by Ross Rivas — July 23, 2010 @ 10:03 am
only 40′ of clothesline? Better than nothing, I guess, but not nearly enough. Sheets would be so close it would take ages for them to dry in the middle.
I already dry my clothes outside – so please do not enter me in the giveaway.
One hint for drying outside: think silk blouses, hung up soaking wet (not wrung dry) usually dry without any wrinkles if hung on a line. In strong sun, hang clothing inside out- the sun will bleach the clothes but not where it shows.

Fingers crossed :) Thanks for hosting such a great giveaway!

I would love to have this. I am moving to L.A. in a couple weeks! I am doing everything to save money on utilities and to go green for the enviroment. I was in target staring at all the Practecol products for an hour thinking about how I was going to save money and buy the surge protector, clothes line, refrigerator kit and dryer balls for my apartment. This would be perfect! I am so happy I found green la girl. Your website is very helpful with everything I am trying to do :) Thanks, even if i don’t win! :D

I’m in love with this fine fellow. I just moved to the Marina, and have created a motto of: reuse, recycle and repurpose is equipping my new home. I have a deck where this would be most cherish and welcome. I adore hanging my clothes out to dry. I did it when I lived overseas and didn’t own a dryer and it make quite a bit of sense. It’s the European way. I was recently interview by a appliance manufacture about the future of appliances and I told how in some communities it’s illegal to hang your clothes to dry outside. I wish I told them about my new 4-Line Retractable Clothesline from Practecol that I will cherish for years to come.http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/12/garden/12clothesline.html

I would love love this! It would be great for my back yard- awesome to be able to line-dry clothes, then close it up so we can still run around back there. =) Will make my little space twice as useful! :)

Great alternative to a dryer.

I love this! Our clothesline is great… but down in the canyon and a bit of a walk. I could use this one under the patio near the house for quick drying or if the weather is misty. Thanks for all you do!
