A weekly sharing of eco-shwag!
The lotion people at Skin MD sent me some “shielding lotion” to try out. Apparantly, this lotion’s supposed to be more effective than other moisturizers, “transforming the outer layer of skin into a hydrating invisible shield.”
I’ve been trying it out on my hands for the last couple days, and I like that the stuff’s fragrance and colorant-free, contains no animal products, and claims not to’ve been tested on animals. I plugged in the ingredients into EWG, which gave the lotion a 0.9 ranking — The product appears to be pretty safe from weird chemicals (full ingredient list here).
In fact, it’s a pretty nice lotion. But to be honest, I can’t really tell the difference between this and other unscented lotions I like — certainly not enough difference to justify the $25 per 4 oz. bottle price tag.
I suppose I could get psyched ’bout the lotion’s claim to having “anti-ageing properties” — but I’m pretty skeptical about all anti-ageing claims, except those pertaining to fresh healthy food, water, and sunscreen.
However, I don’t have any of the major skin issues that this shielding lotion’s supposed to address — dry skin, eczema, or psoriasis.
Thus — I’m giving away one new 4-oz bottle of Skin MD Shielding Lotion to a reader who has any of the above skin issues, and who is willing to try out this lotion for a while and write a review for green LA girl about the results. The first person to email or comment who fits this criteria gets the lotion and my good wishes –
Update: The lotion’s already been taken. Reader Melanie will try out the Skin MD lotion and report back :)

I have eczema and have been battling it for a few years now. I would be willing to try it out and write about my results…

If you get any more such samples, let me know. I have been fighting a battle with psoriasis for close to ten years now and have a few patches that resist all attempts to clear. I’ll be interested to hear how well this product works on Melanie’s eczema as well.
