A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.
Three lucky green LA girl readers will win a copy each of The Conscious Cook, a new, eco-conscious vegan cookbook by chef Tal Ronnen.
Tal, perhaps best known as the chef behind Oprah Winfrey’s 21-day vegan cleanse, isn’t about sacrificing taste for eco-concerns. The 4-color book, The Conscious Cook, features 75 original recipes promises “Delicious Meatless Recipes that will Change the Way you Eat.”
Judging from The Conscious Cook‘s sample recipe for gardein “chicken” scaloppini — which calls for not just single-serving packs of precooked udon noodles but also faux processed soy “chicken breasts — I’m guessing locavores, anti-plastic activists, and foodie purists may not find favor with every recipe in this book. But other recipes, like Old Bay Tofu Cakes with Pan-Roasted Summer Vegetables and Cream of Asparagus Soup sound pretty delicious and less pre-packaged.
The Conscious Cook will be released Oct. 6. Comment by Tuesday to get into the drawing, which’ll happen Wednesday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

Cool! I love cooking – never really tried to be “conscious” about anything except the budget…this would be cool!

Looks intriguing. A different approach from Moosewood, it seems.

I have been wanting a vegan cookbook for a long time, without having to buy one (they’re pretty pricey). I’m working on convincing my wife of the virtues (and tastiness) of vegetarianism.

Love the giveaway! I’m experimenting more with cooking and my family is going more vegetarian. This would definitely help me come up with better meatless meals :-)

I’m a social carnivore who is constantly trying to convince my meat-loving partner the merits of such a lifestyle. He gets the eco-conscious part, the animal rights part, all but the taste part, and I guess I’m guilty for not doing a better job of that…but this would help me!

I never heard about Oprah’s 21-day vegan cleanse. Seems ironic, seeing as she also gave out free KFC to everyone in the nation and finally found a way to break the chicken giant.

I collect cookbooks and this would be a great addition. Count me in please.

Hi! I have been a vegetarian for as long as I can remember. My husband and our two sons are very difficult to cook for, since they are not vegetarians. This cookbook may help them give in just a little.
Thanks, Cindi
