A twice-weekly sharing of eco-shwag.
Two lucky green LA girl readers will each win a copy of The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet by Alicia Silverstone!
Those Clueless about eating veg can learn about how eating a more plant-based diet can help you eat healthier and greener too. The Kind Diet isn’t just for vegans — though the book certainly encourages veganism. As Jenny Rough describes it in Lime, this book offers “three paths toward better eating”:
1) Flirting, a diet that’s rich in veggies, but includes small amounts of animal products; 2) Vegan, a diet with no animal products; and 3) Superhero, basically a vegan diet minus processed foods (even the “healthy” ones).
Hopefully this’ll not only encourage factory-farmed meat-eaters to rethink their hormone-filled steaks, but also convince long-time vegans that water-hogging-and-polluting Coke, imported-from-Taiwan processed soy “meats,” and mercury-tainted Hershey’s chocolate syrup aren’t exactly eco-friendly or healthy either.
Comment by Thursday to get into the drawing for The Kind Diet, which’ll happen Friday (more info on freebies here). US addresses only.

This book looks awesome! Count me in. :)

Oh, yes, must have this book! Jessica Porter, author of Hip Chick’s Guide to Macrobiotics, co-wrote this book. Her book is great if you want to know more about macrobiotics.

I always considered my diet to be a healthy one, but lately, I’m realizing more and more that what I’ve been taught to eat growing up isn’t necessarily the best for me. I love that this book addresses that very notion, and offers new ideas and ways to embrace healthier eating & living. Needless to say, I’d love to learn more.

Count me in! I’d love to read this book (already vegan but can always learn new things) then pass it on to a friend.

I’d love a copy. I saw an interview with her and Joy Behar and it has inspired to cook more vegan things again. You can see a photo of one of the hummus, Corn and Edamame-Sesame Salad, and Chewy Oatmeal-Raisin Cookies I made recently from Veganomicon here.
