GenArt’s Fashionably Natural runway show kicks off LA Fashion Week

LA Fashion Week’s here, and promises to be greener than ever — with GenArt’s Fashionably Natural runway show kicking things off on Thursday.

Summer and I carpooled over to the festivities, which somewhat ironically, happened at the car-lover’s fave LA spot — the Petersen Automotive Museum.

After a few 360 Vodka cocktails, some live art watching, appetizer nibbling, general mingling and a brief intro by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the show began!

Velvet Leaf models strutted down in organic cotton and fair trade silk:

Brigid Catiis‘ collection was made with reclaimed fabrics — arguably the greenest materials of them all:

popomomo worked with soy, bamboo, hemp, organic cotton:

The battalion‘s designs, made with bamboo and organic cotton, were my favorite.

Maggie Gyllenhaal’s outfit (top) was designed by The battalion too. However, I can’t say I was a fan of this shrouded look to the left.

In general, hemlines were high and pants were tight — I guess it’s time to tighten the belt during these harsh economic times –

We ran into Thuy of Green Grown and Sexy and Sarah of Pink Cloud Events, but not Rachel of Treehugger, who complains about the plastic cups at the party in her post about the event.

I dunno where she ordered her drinks; my cocktails were served in real glass — proof below. Summer’s wearing an organic cotton Striped Scarf Shirt paired with organic cotton leggings; I’m wearing a reversible halter top made with vintage fabric that I bought at greenROHINI.
