Think going green’s expensive? No it’s not, if you’re a Santa Monica resident, thanks to Sustainable Works.

For a mere $25 (or less if you can’t afford that), you can take a 6-week greening course AND get a nice greening starter kit, FREE!

What you’ll get: low flow shower heads, faucet aerators, leak detector tablets, recipe lists for non-toxic cleaning alternatives, samples of non-toxic laundry detergent, compact florescent bulbs, canvas shopping bags, and seafood safety guides.

Pretty much all these freebies are gifts that keep on giving, saving you money on your utilities, groceries, etc.

So — How to get the stuff — Sign up for a Sustainable Works’ Green Living Workshop. These 6-week workshops cover water, energy, waste, chemicals, transportation, food, and shopping :)

How it works: “Each week a group of 8-15 residents dissect each topic to understand the issues involved in each area and then learn what they can do to their homes or apartments to make a difference.” Over 4,000 Santa Monica peeps have taken the class already!

The workshop’s funded by the City of Santa Monica, and the $25 contribution, used to cover materials, is voluntary. Fee waivers are available — no one’s turned away.

Wednesdays : Aug. 23, Aug. 30, Sept. 6, Sept. 13, Sept. 20, Sept. 27, 7 to 8:30 pm at 1744 Pearl St. (between Pico and Ocean Park near 20th St.)
