I now own a grocery store. Seriously.
Well, part of one. Co-opportunity, Santa Monica’s co-op natural grocer, is running its membership drive now. If you join for $30 ($25 plus $5 processing fee) between now and March 15, you get a gift certificate for $10 –
As well as a gift (left) — Co-opportunity mug, pen, organic fruit leather (Stretch Island Fruit), a packet of Emer’gen-C, a packet of SweetLeaf Stevia Plus, and a sample of JoYva sesame crunch.
And of course, 8 shares in Co-opportunity — which I can get back any time. In the meantime, I’m “standing up for sustainable, organic agriculture and for a homegrown, locally-active natural foods way of life,” according to the lil brochure.
Plus — It’s a great place to get organic wine. I’ve discovered some new ones, including a French merlot from La Marouette. The Californian wines will be added to the list tout de suite.
As for coffee — The lil cafe in the store brews fair trade blends from Cafe Altura :) You can also buy fair trade coffee from Cafe Altura, Equal Exchange, and Green Mountain Coffee to brew at home. Along with fair trade cocoa and sugar!
More on membership benefits here. And hey — If ownership scares you — go shop anyway. The place is open to all :)
Co-opportunity. 1525 Broadway @ 16th. Santa Monica. 310-451-8902. 7 am - 10 pm.
Update, 8/19/08: Triple certified coffee at Co-opportunity.

…wish our local Co-Op offered the neat little gift basket for joining! Nothing like hitting the Coop after a long hard day in the lift of internet retail and coffee house start up!
..be bold
