Good Food Festival: Pencil in this five day foodie fest in Santa Monica

Wish you had a farmers market that has free bicycle valet and a cookbook full of recipes crafted to make locavoring easy and delicious? Santa Monica’s already got one — and it’s turning 30 years old this year. And to celebrate, it’s bringing together eco-foodies from across the country for a five-day-long party: Good Food Festival and Conference.

Happening Sep. 14 to 18, this festival will bring together all the foodie heroes you’ve seen on screens big and small — as well as local heroes growing and making some of the most delicious food in Southern California. Laurie David, founder of StopGlobalWarming and author of “Family Dinner,” Suzanne Goin of Lucques, and Will Allen of Growing Power (featured in “Fresh“) are just a few of the foodie celebs who’ll be taking part in this celebration.

Among the highlights:

>> Localicious. Described as the “Grand Tasting Gala of the Year,” this event will pair 30 local farmers with 30 of L.A.’s top chefs, who’ll create in-season dishes for attendees to enjoy while tasting local wines and beers and the beautiful sunset at the Annenberg Community Beach House. Cost: From $125.

>> Chefs at Play. This all-day tasting event’s another farmer-meets-chef event that sounds a lot like Localicious — except with more watching and less eating. Each featured chef will have an hour to “play.” Get there early to see how the creations from L.A.’s best restaurants — including Lucques, Campanile, and Spago — get whipped up.

>> Good Food Festival and Street Fair. It’ll be like a farmers market that lasts all weekend when this fair takes over the city streets on Saturday and Sunday, featuring exhibits with family farmers and artisanal producers, street food sourced from farmers market fare, and more.

>> Good Food Conference and Trade Show. Hear speakers and panelists talk about everything from changing public policy to improving public health — all through the lens of good food — at this all-day Friday conference.

Lots more delicious events — from a screening of “Harvest” to a Financing Farm to Fork Conference for regional farmers to parties to speakers to DIY demos — are happening that weekend. Check the full schedule and get your tickets early so you don’t miss a bite!
