Backyard Composting Workshop — Sat., Nov. 22, 10 am – noon. Griffith Park Composting Education Facility, 5400 Griffith Park Dr., Los Angeles. Cost: Free
Curious about composting? The City of LA’s recycling division hosts this free workshop covering the A to Zs of backyard composting, worm composting, types of compost bins, grasscycling, and other smart gardening techniques.
Film Screening of “Shall We Gather At the River” and Vegetarian Potluck — Sun., Nov. 23, 5 pm – 9 pm. 626 Cypress Ave., Pasadena (school across from the urban homestead). Cost: $10 donation, children under 12 are free. Space is limited, please RSVP.
A film, some food, and friends round out this eco-pioneer evening. At 5 pm, mingle with the So Cal Freedom Garden Meetup members, followed by the Harvest Potluck at 5:30 pm, and the film screening at 7 pm to 8:30 pm. The documentary “exposes a huge health and environmental scandal in our modern industrial system of meat and poultry production.” If possible, bring something vegetarian and locally produced within 100-mile radius of your home (no alcohol allowed on school campus).
Los Angeles Bioneers Potluck and Speaker — Tues., Nov. 25, 7 pm. 1824 Old Ranch Rd., Los Angeles. Cost: $6. Space is limited to 40 people; RSVP to srnichols@mac.com.
Re-imagine the future of our planet with the local chapter of Bioneers: people who are “working with nature to heal nature and ourselves.” Guest speaker Jim Carter, an investment advisor, will discuss green investing and how as an environmentalist you can make money while being responsible. Arrive as close to 7 pm as possible to get the eating underway; bring a potluck snack or beverage, and only bring food in reusable containers for a zero-waste event!
