green LA girl to speak at WordCamp LA 9/12

I’m attending WordCampLA!Fellow WordPress bloggers — or really, anyone with an interest in blogging and social media — Come to the very first WordCamp LA and hear me speak!

When: Sat., Sept. 12th, from 9 am to 6 pm. Registration opens at 8, afterparty starts at 7.
Where: Loyola Marymount University, 1 LMU Drive, Los Angeles.
Cost: $25 a ticket

WordCamp LA’s a “a conference created for enthusiasts, users, developers, designers, and fans of WordPress in the greater Los Angeles area.” Don’t know what WordPress is? You’re looking at a WordPress site right now. WordPress is the popular, flexible open source publishing platform used to publish green LA girl and many many other blogs.

Come hang out with fellow local bloggers and hear speakers on everything from practical topics like “Creating a WordPress plugin: It’s easier than you think” by John Hawkins to more vague-sounding ones like “Failure is Job One” by Micah Baldwin. Oh, and there’s an afterparty at the Custom Hotel’s pool bar with Digital LA.

My talk’s titled “Blogging Green.” At the moment I’m rather nervous this talk, partly because I appear to be the only female speaker (!!) and partly because I’m afraid my talk’s going to be the least WordPress-y, focusing somewhat less on WordPress specifically and more about blogging green in general.

Got thoughts about how environmentalism intersects with WordPress? Then please do email and share your ideas! In the meantime, buy your ticket, follow @WordCampLA on Twitter — and tweet your #WordCampLA related thoughts.

  1. Someone once told me that Open Source by nature is green. Who was that? Oh, I know. I was a Firefox rep at the SF Green Festival last year when I asked what was green about Firefox. Okay, so they were biased. But still, I do think that open source is a philosophically green idea.

I’m going to contact your woman, by the way, and see if she can help me make the switch over.

  2. There are definitely many reasons to support open source, green or otherwise. Good luck with the website migration issue — I think you’ll be a lot happier on WordPress :)

  3. I am looking forward to your incite. I’m relatively new to Word Press and blogging, but I’ve been vegan for 16 years, so I suspect I will relate more to your subject matter than to some of the others. See you there!

  4. Great meeting you at the afterparty, Jason! I’ll try out that vegan soul food place :)
