Playboy Playmates and pre-teen hip hop artists aren’t the first people that come to my mind when thinking green celebs — but both Norwegian Playboy Playmate Lillian Müller and pre-teen hip hop star Lil Maxso will be part of the next eco-themed film festival happening in Los Angeles.
The fourth annual Green Lifestyle Film Festival promises a weekend of inspiring eco-themed films, healthy food, and creative entertainment. Happening March 19 – 21 at the James Bridges Theater at the University of California, Los Angeles, GLFF will kick off with an opening event on Friday evening, with Australian model and actress Joanne Rose and Mad TV comedienne and actress Debra Wilson Skelton hosting while Lillian Müller, Lil Maxso, and other celebs walk the green carpet.
Throughout the weekend, an outdoor arena will feature live food demos, eco-themed booths, and entertainment — all free and open to the public. Attendees will be able to contribute to a vegetarian food drive benefiting the Westside Food Bank.
And of course, there will be films. The lineup features full-length documentaries, animated cartoons, and short films a variety of eco-topics, ranging from the popular green documentary FUEL to a short film on diaper-free child rearing!
A full weekend pass to the festival — including the closing Gala Awards Dinner and Dance — costs $195, but day, half day, and individual event passes are also available for $25 – $65.

I travel all over the U.S.. I’ve been in California for the past six months and have gotten a feel for how things are done here. I noticed that you have lots of these phony “Green” parties and celebrations and other hoop-la going on, but you don’t practice “Green” living here.
In short, you talk-the-talk, but you don’t walk-the-walk.
Driving along the highways this is the dirtiest state I’ve been in. The only place I’ve seen more litter is around Washington D.C.. You have no recycling here, the desert and remote areas look like many garbage dumps I’ve seen.
So, if you really want to celebrate being “Green”, why don’t you start right here by promoting better stewardship of the place you live. Many years ago I grew up in the Adirondack Mountains. Our motto there was, “If you carry it in – carry it out”.
You should start that campaign here instead of hyping what cool celeb is going to show up at the next “Green” party. If the celebs really cared about more than their egos, they’d start leading campaigns to clean this state up.

This event is not placing an emphasis on celebrities. It has a vegetarian food drive,it’s honoring people noted for treating animals humanely and it’s providing booths and films to teach people to take care of their bodies, minds and the planet.
However, look beyond the celebrities at this event and realize this is a full experience designed to teach people how to become stewards of this planet. I will be there! Thanks Green LA Girl!!!

Re: first comment. I don’t think LA Green Girl is here to be scolded. She IS starting where she lives and with this blog, spreads the word to other Angelenos, even if it takes mention of celebrities. After all, they’re the ones who draw attention here. In a way, fghting fire with fire. Would it better if there was no mention of this at all? At least being green, however remotely is better than nothing, and certainly better than just preaching (or ranting) to the choir.
BTW, I too have lived all over the US and the world for that matter, and know what you’re saying – but accusing an ally of not walking the walk since won’t help.

Thanks for the comments, lisa and jeannie — though you really can’t take flamers like the first commenter seriously :P Aside from Cali having mandated some of the highest recycling rates in the country, the commenter mostly sounds angry about not being invited to green parties — and apparently their attitude got them banished to the outskirts of town by the garbage dumps.
