>> Cyclists: Be at the next L.A. Transportation Committee meeting to support a 10% set-aside from Measure R funds for bicycle and pedestrian projects. The meeting happens Wed., Oct. 14 at 2 pm at City Hall, 200 N. Spring St., Los Angeles. RSVP requested to dorothy@la-bike.com.

>> Daily Kos blogger and author Jill Richardson will have a reception and signing of her new book, Recipe for America: Why our Food System is Broken and How to Fix It on Fri., Oct. 16 from 7 pm until 9 pm at The New School of Cooking, 8690 Washington Blvd., Culver City. RSVP required to annesmith@newschoolofcooking.com. Cost: $15 for a copy of the book.
