>> Get free carrot cake and produce bags at Farmers Markets: 30 Years and Growing, where Mayor Villaraigosa will join local farmers, chefs, and foodie celebrities to party about 30 years of L.A. farmers’ markets. Be there Thurs., September 3 from, 10 am – 2 pm at the Lawn of City Hall, 1st and Spring St. in Downtown Los Angeles.

>> West Side Green Drinks happens on Santa Monica Pier this time, featuring Brian Meux with Santa Monica Baykeeper, as a speaker. Santa Monica Baykeeper T-shirts and coolers will be raffled. Post-speech, you can take in the Twilight Dance Series concert at the pier — Remember there’s free bike valet! >> There seems to be a green film festival every weekend now! Last weekend was Bicycle Film Festival, the weekend before, Downtown Film Festival with a green day of programming. This weekend it’s Blue Planet Film Fest, a “new animal welfare / environmental festival and forum. Check out the film schedule — which includes Blue Gold, reviewed here — then stop by over Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 4 – Sept. 7 at Santa Monica Playhouse, 1211 4th St., Santa Monica. Tickets cost $5.50 – $6.50 per screening or $12 for the opening gala — and each ticket sold plants a tree.

>>Park[ing] Day LA returns  Sept. 18, so get to the Park[ing] Day LA Workshop this weekend! The Greensters will transport supplies — by bike, of course — then demonstrate how to install a simple temporary park. The workshop happens Sat., Sept. 5 from 9 am – 2 pm at 4590 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles.

>> Slow Food USA’s Time for Lunch: National Day of Action wants you to join an eat-in near you on Sept. 7. The point: To get the federal government to change school food programs and start serving healthy, sustainable food. Join a potluck near you and sign the petition.
