Green weekender: Treefall to Tomatomania!

Posted by Siel in environment, events (Tuesday August 4, 2009 at 1:53 pm)

Treefall poster>> Eco-documentary The Cove, which exposes the “secret systematic slaughter of 23,000 dolphins,” is in L.A. theaters now. Here’s an L.A. Times article about the making of The Cove.

>> The next round of Westside Subway Extension Project meetings begin tonight! 5 meetings total will happen around the westside this and next week. Help bring the subway to the sea!

>> See an eco-themed play, Treefall, which tells the story of 3 teens living “in a future drastically altered by global climate change”: “The arrival of a stranger with a secret unhinges the life they knew, and the vestiges of civil behavior crumble. The play re-examines how our culture sees and instills gender, identity, and family … even in a future world where these strictures have eroded.” The show — followed by organic snacks and a conversation with the author — goes on August 6 at 8 pm at the Rogue Machine Theater, 5041 Pico Blvd., Los Angeles. Get $10 off the regular $25 ticket price by RSVPing by Aug. 4 to jpollono@gmail.com with GLAG/Treefall as the subject line.

>> Tomatomania!, the country’s largest tomato seeding sale, will have its annual Tomatomania! Tasting on Sat., August 8 at 10 am at The Loteria Grill in Hollywood, 6627 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood. You must bring a perfectly ripe, correctly labeled homegrown tomato to participate. RSVP to 323.465.2500.

>> The next monthly Green Business Networking happens Tues., August 11 from 6 pm – 9 pm at The Ambrose Hotel, 1255 20th St., Santa Monica. There’ll be green entrepreneurs, desperate job seekers, and organic food and drinks. Cost: $10. Earlier: About GBN.
