Looking to put your dog on a raw food diet? Turning your kitty onto organic catnip? Then stop by Healthy Spot, an eco-conscious dog retail store that’s opened up in Santa Monica.

If parents did for their kids what pet-owners do for their dogs at Healthy Spot, we’d have a happy world. Healthy Spot — a spacious, modern store that opened in May — is heaven for Santa Monica canines, complete with “Puppy Pre-School,” small dog daycare (below), a doggie styling salon and spa.

The doggie food and products are oriented towards eco-friendly and organic concerns. We’re talking non-toxic, hypoallergenic, biodegradable toys, organic and/or recycled doggie beds (below) and toys and apparel, and vegetarian or vegan dog food.

There are eco-friendly candles that benefit dogs, organic frozen yogurt for dogs, and organic stuffed monkeys and bears for dogs (below). If need be, Healthy Spot has the goods to put your pup on an organic, grassfed bison diet. Seriously.

Healthy Spot does have a “kitty corner” too (below), with organic catnip and recycled toys, though the area is small.

The store was co-founded by Andrew Kim and Mark Boonnark. In addition to running the store, the two’re working with A Walk for the Underdog, a nonprofit that raises money for 30 rescues and shelters. The Healthy Spot also holds dog adoptions every Sunday from 1 pm to 5 pm with Marley’s Pit Stop.

The founders want Healthy Spot “to become the center for community social, informational and educational dog events.” Will enough Santa Monica pet owners fork over the money to make this happen? I’ve no idea — but I do have some friends who get paid good money to walk dogs. If any neighborhood can support an impeccably groomed poodle with a picky diet, it’s Santa Monica (maybe West Hollywood too)….

Healthy Spot, 1110 Wilshire Blvd., Santa Monica. 310.458.2004.

Ah, I wish that was here in Seattle! I’d plunk down the money there for sure.
What I’m dying to find is an organic pet store that carries bunny stuff. Sigh!

…is a vegetarian and thinks that vegan dog food is a bad idea.

Jonathan–unless you’ve owned and/or cared for a dog with allergies to dairy, eggs, beef, and the like: don’t judge!
At least these people are making an effort to produce healthful food–which is refreshing. Most dog food companies these days shovel in corn and soy and all kinds of other junky things into their dog foods–dogs cannot digest corn and soy!
