The Bus of the Future event‘s not until the end of next month, but you can get a glimpse of the future of transportation tomorrow at the opening reception for Toyota’s HEYA project.

Officially called “From Here to There: A Heya Project,” this event’s basically an art exhibit with installations that explore the future of transportation. “From human power to hydrogen, bicycles to rails, the transportation ideas range from common sense to fantastical,” reads the press release about the event, which also promises these:
· A 3D rendering of female auto designer Krystyne Zurian’s cocoon concept car for women.
· A giant Sumi Ink Club Mural in progress. Media is invited to paint alongside siteLA’s Sarah Anderson
· An interactive city model, by L.A. planner James Rojas, that invites the public to imagine transportation alternatives
· An Interactive Obeya Wall where visitors can share their ideas for the future of transportation
There’ll also be solar-powered DJs and free wine.
When: Friday, August 22, 2008, 8 – 10 pm
Where: Quiksilver’s siteLA, 2522 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake, Los Angeles
Cost: Free!
The exhibit runs Aug. 23 – Sept. 5, but Toyota’s HEYA’s project, which aims to create “an online community that targets inspiring, innovative young adults … by encouraging honest, direct communication between fellow consumer members and Toyota” appears to be long-term.
The catch: You have to apply by answering a buncha questions to join the HEYA community, ostensibly “in order to ensure that the most enthusiastic and inspiring people are welcomed.” Once in though, HEYA members will be able to suggest all sorts of projects — and even apply for $2,500 from Toyota to fund their innovative ideas.
