If you think you’re too eco-picky an eater to get your money’s worth out of a breakfast buffet, you haven’t been to Inn of the Seventh Ray. Here, the Sunday Brunch spread is an eco-foodie’s dream. Sumptuous raw salads made with locally grown produce? Check. Farm-identified, free range rosemary chicken? Check. Vegan scones? Check.

I filled my place not once, not twice, but three times — despite the fact that I only took smallish tastes of each dish I wanted to try! The salad selection alone was mind boggling. I’m not sure which was my favorite: The cool cucumber salad, the corn asparagus salad with rosemary oil, the pickled beet salad, or the more filling penne pasta salad!

Then there was the white bean stew, poached salmon, granola with soy milk, and Belgian waffle — followed by the sweetbreads — cinnamon buns, apple crisp, vegan scones, and carob brownie.

In the buffet room, many of the dishes are labeled with descriptions and notes that make dining easier for those with dietary restrictions — whether vegan, gluten-free, or locavore. Alas, I did not save room for the organic seasonal fruits — but I did enjoy a rich soy latte with a biscotti to top off my decadent brunch while taking in the gorgeous green outdoor setting, complete with fountains and a gentle stream.

Inn of the Seventh Ray’s a locavore-friendly spot where even the pickiest of eaters can find lots of delicious and healthy dishes to eat. With a commitment to hormone and antibiotic-free meats, this restaurant caters to the health-conscious crowd that comes for the tasty eats sans bleached flour and refined sugar.

I was introduced to Inn of the Seventh Ray by Sara Bayles of The Daily Ocean, who actually had her wedding at this gorgeous Topanga spot. No lover’s necessary to fall in love with the food and setting here though. The Sunday Brunch costs $33 for the vegetarian option, $37 for the full buffet.

  3. It is delicious and healthy — but slightly dangerous due to how tempting it is to overeat, esp. at the buffet :)
