I watched the Vegan Knitters webring get started way back when, via the vegan knitter Jen when she started it last year.
Now, that ring list is 28 blogs strong!
I’m a knitter, but I’m not a vegan — which is why I haven’t joined the ring. I think that wool can be harvested in sustainable ways.
But I hear what these vegan knitters are saying. Unless you make sure that the alpaca wool you’re buying is cruelty free, the stuff’s probably v. much not cruelty free.
If you’re a vegan knitter — or a vegan who wants to learn to knit — or a knitter who wants to go vegan, here’s the Veggie Knitters blog.
And I’ll be at the Culver City Stitch & Bitch at Synergy Cafe tomorrow evening with my friend Lily! Come by and join in the knitting happiness –
Update: It’s worse than I thought! The Worsted Witch reports on how some companies boil wool in pesticides to keep it moth-proof –

cool…, but what about knitting plastic bags? any interest in this area? :-)

Wow – thanks for highlighting the webring!!! I’m one of the members and not only have I learned about vegan yarns and knitting in general, I’ve made friends and joined a small (the vegan one) as well as a large (nonvegan) knitting community as well.
I am also very concerned about the environment so I’ll be keeping up with your blog.

Cute! Shipping options are rather dicey though — and costly, if one uses FedEx… Not really sure what I’d use them for though, since I’m child-free –
