There was a somewhat recent article in a car magazine comparing the how the lifetime of a Hummer and Prius are to the environment. Over a certain period of time, I think 5-10 years a Hummer is less toxic to the environment.

So driving a Hummer isn't necessarily so bad. Of course driving a 40mpg Civic would make more sense for the local government that should be setting the example. But then again I don't really understand who voted for the majority of people in office for LA City.

This is just one of the examples of hypocrisy in the Villaraigosa administration: A Transportation Deputy who drives a gas guzzling symbol of wretched excess; A Chief Deputy with no significant political experience; A Community Service Deputy who works to carry out projects without consulting the community; A Public Relations flack in charge of the disastrous budget.

And then there is the Mayor. He called a press conference to ask for privacy about his affair with the First Television New Reader. He told the public that he values his family as he spent years disrespecting his wife and children with a sordid set of affairs.

The mayor says he works so hard to protect the poor. Then he essentially mocks them as he sips expensive wine, wears extravagant clothing, and runs around town with the Second Television News Reader. ("I am no longer one of you"is his implicit message.)

The Mayor and his administration is Marie Antoinette in male drag.
