If you’re in downtown this evening, check out the City Hall, which is to glow green. LA Mayor Villaraigosa’s flipping the swich to deck City Hall, Griffith Observatory, and the LAX pillars in green lights, at 8:30 pm tonight, July 2, 2007.
The green lights’re intended to show “solidarity with a new effort to raise awareness and seek solutions to the global warming crisis” and “to kick off nationwide support for Live Earth,” according to the press release. Live Earth, BTW, happens on Saturday — Anyone going to Jersey to see the US show?
The lil event’s basically for the press: Villaraigosa, Ed Begley, Jr., Cathy Zoi of Alliance for Climate Protection and Lawrence Bender, producer of An Inconvenient Truth, will meet at the DWP office at 111 N. Hope St. for the switch flipping.
But the green lights should be an interesting sight for everyone, though perhaps rather lost on people who don’t know why our landmarks have suddenly changed color. A bit unfortunate that none of the 3 locations are biking distance for me, but if you’re around, take pictures –
Update, 7/3/04: angelinic has a picture of City Hall in green –
