LACMA, Dan Flavin, and eco-shopping

Posted by Siel in art/lit/music,environment,fairtrade (Monday June 25, 2007 at 12:27 pm)

I didn’t make it to the Late Night at LACMA event, but the Los Angeles County Museum of Art was free all weekend, so I stopped by yesterday with my friend Michelle to see Dan Flavin: A Retrospective

pink out of a corner (to Jasper Johns) may’ve been my fave, though other pieces lent themselves to better photos.

I’m pretty sure I wasn’t supposed to take photos in there, so don’t tell anyone…. To the right’s my friend Michelle, en vert –

Afterwards we dropped into the museum store and found some eco-stuff. For ex, a placemat made of recycled magazine.

However, Michelle pointed out that one can’t drop any food or liquid onto these placemats without staining or deforming them — which makes it a bit of a faulty product….

LACMA also had fairly-made display platters and shoe mats made of potato chip wrappers — My friend Summer sells similarly-inspired bowls and such on her web store BTC Elements.

There were also very very naturally-shaped eco-wood bowls and plates.

The Dan Flavin retrospective goes on until August 12, 2007. While the free weekend’s over, you can always see LACMA free after 5 pm. For a full free day at LACMA, drop by on the second Tuesday of each month.
