This post’s by Damien Newton of Streetsblog LA, who catches you up on the latest local de-car-ing news:
Transit: Metro, aka LACMTA, passed its FY 2010 budget at a contentious board meeting yesterday. The meeting itself might have been a circus, but one of the results, the allocation of a half-billion in stimulus dollars, should help further beef up transit in Greater Los Angeles.
Bicycles: The City of Los Angeles released draft maps that will be part of the Bicycle Master Plan. The early returns aren’t good as cyclists are panning the maps as inconsequential.
Bicycles (again): Local bike culture took a star turn in the July edition of Bicycling Magazine. The article isn’t available online, so you’ll just have to pick up a copy yourself.
Smart Growth: Local officials are still debating how to implement S.B. 375, the “anti-sprawl” bill that links land use planning and the growth in greenhouse gases. Unfortunately, local officials are either unsure how to implement the legislation or don’t believe that land use has any impact on pollution.
