Lit Thursday: What’s in a smile

Posted by Siel in art/lit/music (Thursday June 5, 2008 at 10:23 am)

A little zine published by Ugly Ducking Press called 6×6 showcases 6 pages of work from 6 poets in issue. And I liked these smiley poems from the last issue, which is beautifully designed and letter pressed — and held together only by a rubber band:

… It’s all ways
the same — on some level
the smile is a smile. & on
some other, a subtle mark
eting tool.

That’s an excerpt from “Decontextualized Recombinant” by Douglas Rothschild. Here’s part of Lori Shine’s “Small Pairings”:

… I was not so spurned I couldn’t smile, in fact

that was all I could do, split my face.

Happy smiling, everyone –
