Ever been to the Staples Center — to see the Los Angeles Sparks? I haven’t — but will be at the Sparks game this Thursday to support women’s sports and the Sparks’ first “Go Green Night.”
In case you’d really gotten your hopes up, Go Green Night won’t actually mean the game or the stadium itself’s going green. Rather, the night will have both green nonprofits and businesses present to educate Sparks fans — who’ll get wildflower see packets at the doors — about the environment — so they can go green.
Heal the Bay, TreePeople, and Metrolink will be among the groups hoping to get a minute of fans’ time. In addition, the game will feature green tips on the video board featuring Sparks players, a “Go Green On-Court Contest,” and a halftime auction for Sparks Go Green Warm Ups and basketballs autographed by the entire team (it’s unclear as of yet what makes the warm ups “green”).
Sparks’ Go Green Night happens this Thursday, Aug. 27, starting at 7:30 pm when the Sparks play the Phoenix Mercury at the Staples Center, 1111 S Figueroa St., Los Angeles. Tickets cost between $10 and $55 each.
Can’t make it to the game? Then join the Sparks beach cleanup (PDF) and pick up trash on Santa Monica beach with Sparks players and coaches, and “partners” like Heal the Bay and TreePeople. That event happens Saturday, Aug. 29 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Meet at 1600 Ocean Front Walk in Santa Monica.
Update: I went to L.A. Sparks’ Go Green Night: Light green eco-education and a lot of fun
