Leaf through Santa Monica’s Continuing Community Education brochure, and you’ll see a new “Environmental Living” section!
Among the workshops and classes offered, a 4-day workshop — Sustainable Landscaping for the Home Garden — is the best deal of the lot. Starting Sept. 6, participate in 4 Saturday workshops of 3 hours each. Cost: $49 — but Santa Monica water customers who attend all classes can get a water bill credit of $49, essentially making the class pay for itself!
Couple other good bargains for the budding environmentalist: Basic Organic Gardening 101 which meets for 4, 2-hour sessions starting Sept. 14, and the Introduction to Permaculture class, taught by Sean Jennings who organizes the Westside Permaculture Gatherings, which meets for 6 Mondays starting Sept. 8.
For those who have, or want, green jobs, SMC’s offering some professional classes too: Trouble-Free Drip Irrigation for landscape professionals (course fee waived if currently registered as a Sustainable landscape Professional by the City of Santa Monica Environment Programs Division), Sustainable Building Advisor Certificate Program that preps you to take the NaSBAP exam, plus a couple solar power-related classes: Solar Power Systems for Career Seekers and Solar Power Systems for Contractors and Workers.

Hi, I am very interested in joining the SMC class and would like to sign up and find out when the classes are being held. I can be reached via email or by phone at 818-974-6740; I would greatly appreciate your response.
Cheers,
Christine
