Be part of the Public Fruit Jam 2007 — and join your fellow Angelenos in a communal jam-making session.

When: Sunday, August 19, 2007, 12 pm -3 pm.
Where: Machine Project, 1200 D N. Alvarado St. Los Angeles. 213.483.8761.
Cost: Free, but bring the fruits and jars you’ve got.

The jamming sessions’ put together by The Fallen Fruit collective — the people who want you to know that fruit overhanging public property’s yours for freely taking. Show up with any fruit — whether frozen, home-grown or publicly plucked — and any glass jars you have.

“We’ll discuss the basics of jam and jelly making, pectin and bindings, as well as the communal power of shared fruit and the liberation of public fruit,” announces the Machine Project post re: the event. “At the end everyone will leave with a jar of communal jam. If enough people bring surplus, even the empty handed will leave with jam. Vats of fun for all!”

  1. Although I usually don’t have access to fallen fruit, the event sounds fun, informative, and delicious! Have you guys also heard about the Eat Well Guided Tour of America? The group Sustainable Table is traveling cross-country to find the best sustainable restaurants and farms, as well as the best pies! The public can join them for many similarly informative events. Here’s the link: http://www.sustainabletable.org/roadtrip/home.php
